It's all about saving money. With prices at their highest rates in years, who has the cash to pay for regular salon manicures?? That's why its important for every girl to know how to do her own nails. I've been doing my own nails for years & there's just no reason to go to a salon regularly when you can do the exact same thing yourself for next to nothing!
Here are the steps for achieving a flawless manicure at home:
8 Steps to a Perfect DIY Manicure
Take off old color with acetone polish remover on a cotton ball.
Cut & file nails to your length of choice. As for shape, there're 2 main options: square or rounded. And neither form will chip more than the other. I prefer a square shape. It looks more modern.
Rest hands in a bowl of warm water for 5 minutes. Add 2 tablespoons of your favorite liquid soap to soften nails. Make sure the water's not too hot or it'll dry out your hands & nails.
Apply cuticle oil or lotion on dry hands to nourish & soften rough spots.
Use a cuticle or ice cream stick to press cuticles back so they don't get in the way of the polish.
Exfoliate hands with a body scrub or homemade mixture of olive oil & sugar. Scrub for 2 to 3 minutes, then wash thoroughly.
Dry hands & apply a rich moisturizer.
Apply a base coat first, then apply 2 thin coats of polish. My fave is Golden Wine by Avon, Rs.79. Finish with a top coat if you haven't used one yet.
So there you have it: my tips for an amazing DIY manicure. Do you have any tips or suggestions to add to the list?? Do you normally do your nails yourself or are regular salon manicures part of your life??
